Messinia, an Unspoilt Destination Messinia, an Unspoilt Destination

From the first moment you arrive, Messinia will amaze you and take your breath away. The green landscapes, the vast olive groves, the wild mountains, suitable for long hikes and breathtaking cycling routes; the shameless crystal clear blue water that surrounds the area of Messinia will keep you the best company during your trip.

The strong local culture and the traditional dishes will make your stay unforgettable. Did we even mention that all this beauty is only 2.5 hours away from Athens?! That would be an extra reason why you should visit Messinia ASAP!

For those who love history and culture, we should mention that Messinia is located in the south west side of Peloponnese, the mother land of the Olympic Games and the Olympic Spirit. Messini is an old city and around its area you will see ancient ruins such as, the ancient theater of Messene, which has survived since 3rd c. BC, and mesmerising castles from ancient times ready to be explored and travel you back in time.

The famous castle of Methoni will fascinate you with its beauty as it occupies the whole area of the cape and the southwestern coast and ends to a small islet with a tower on top, which is protected by the sea on its three sides.

Santorini might be very high on the list of the best destinations in Greece, but Messinia and the area of Costa Navarino has no reason to be left behind. The beautiful long white sand beaches and the wild mountains will stay in your heart and mind for long time. Leave your car and take your bike, go through a small track to find Voidokilia beach, one of the most famous and most beautiful beaches of Greece where the crystal green-blue water makes every swim special; and who knows maybe you are lucky and spot some flamingos enjoying the sun. If you have the wind at your back and there is a windy day don’t miss the chance to visit Lagouvardos beach and maybe do some surfing. For the mountain lovers, you can bike through a thick forest to reach the majestic Kalamari waterfalls and dive in its cold refreshing water.

When in Messinia, the Polylimnio (many lakes) is a place you MUST visit; the 15 pools filled by waterfalls will leave you speechless. Trails through the small villages and around the coast are perfect for a morning running session at sunrise and its colors.
